5.A. Silent Signals

The stress point at which a given material may break, is determined by the nature of its resistance, and the force exerted upon it. In part, this can be attributed to the elements of the material acting in a manner inconsistent with its sum. The cohesion of disparate elements exist in accordance with the properties and deliberate actions of the whole toward its continuance, until it does not. Our bedrocks are as sure as steel you might say, though you’ll need a furnace, and even then the iron and carbon are not chemically bonded. Our existence is held together with coercive force between the multiple polarizing influences within our control and without.

In walking through a pedestrian crowd, you might begin to notice the glances toward a direction that a passerby may give, and you may adjust your path accordingly. Whether you move toward resistance or passivity is dependent on not only you, but by the passerby themself, the place, the time or the circumstance. Your eyes may open wider when you suspect that the passerby needs help, or you may make an empathetic motion with your chin that you hope translates to a universal camaraderie of shared humanness, or you may smile to communicate your own joy which is either selfishly boastful or intended for infection. Our broadcasts travel at variable rates depending on intentionality and receptiveness. Despite the clarity and purposefulness of our sent signal, the passerby operates in a zone of probable error, leaving the rate of transfer wholly dependent on the receptor and contextual factors of interference and amplification.

Gravity is a mitigating factor on the effect of electromagnetic force; sound travels faster through wood or water than it does air. Yet these soundless signals are more akin to light, and have a discernible “charge” as they travel. They’re sometimes faster than sound through air, and they’re not affected by gravity, other than the psychological gravity of perception.

We also know in sending signals that they may or may not be received in the moment they are given, and yet we send them anyway in the hope of a retransmission tower, or a remembered kindness. Or a lost loved one appearing in a dream, now several seconds after passing a road sign on a highway your brain processes the arrow and what it points toward. The quiet marker sends a ripple outward, projecting a depolarisation at a location to be determined allowing for the creation of something unique.

One possible strategy is to create metaphysical eddies that leave a static charge hovering in time and space. This is actualized in the creation of music, whether in waking-time or dream-time. This creation of music is both/and the addition or negation of sound, legitimizing attempts to facilitate silence (where music or sound or speech is expected) and its ability to communicate across these underexplored terrains. _______________ a gap, a pause, becoming an open void for uninterrupted transmission of these silent signals. Micro seances in the volumes for volume, the volume for volumes.
